Louise Caroline Alberta Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Princess of the United Kingdom was the daughter of Albert Prinz von Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha and Victoria I Alexandrina Hanover, Queen of the United Kingdom. She was born on 18 March 1848 at Buckingham Palace, St. James's, London, England.1 She married Sir John George Edward Henry Douglas Sutherland Campbell, 9th Duke of Argyll, son of Sir George Douglas Campbell, 8th Duke of Argyll and Lady Elizabeth Georgiana Sutherland-Leveson-Gower, on 21 March 1871.1 She died on 3 December 1939 at age 91 at Kensington Palace, Kensington, London, England.1 She was buried at Royal Mausoleum, Frogmore House, Windsor, Berkshire, England.2
She gained the title of HRH Princess Louise of the United Kingdom.3 As of 21 March 1871, her married name was Campbell. She was invested as a Dame Grand Cross, Royal Victorian Order (G.C.V.O.).3 She was invested as a Dame Grand Cross, Order of the British Empire (G.B.E.).3 She was invested as a Dame of Grace, Order of St. John of Jerusalem (D.G.St.J.).3 She was invested as a Lady, Royal Order of Victoria and Albert (V.A.).3 She was awarded the decoration of the Imperial Order of the Crown of India (C.I.).3 She was honorary Colonel-in-Chief of the Princess Louise's Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.3 Through her marriage, Louise Caroline Alberta Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Princess of the United Kingdom gained the title of Duchess of Argyll on 24 April 1900.
