Edward VII Albert Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, King of the United Kingdom was the son of Albert Prinz von Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha and Victoria I Alexandrina Hanover, Queen of the United Kingdom. He was born on 9 November 1841 at Buckingham Palace, St. James's, London, England.2 He was baptised on 25 January 1842. He married Alexandra Caroline Marie Charlotte Louise Julia von Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, Princess of Denmark, daughter of Christian IX von Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, King of Denmark and Luise Wilhelmine Friederike Karoline Auguste Julie Prinzessin von Hessen-Kassel, on 19 March 1863.2 He was also reported to have been married on 10 March 1863 at St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, Windsor, Berkshire, England. He died on 6 May 1910 at age 68 at Buckingham Palace, St. James's, London, from bronchitis.2 He was buried on 20 May 1910 at St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, Windsor, Berkshire.3,4

He gained the title of Duke of Cornwall on 9 November 1841.2 He gained the title of Duke of Rothesay on 9 November 1841.2 He gained the title of Earl of Chester on 8 December 1841.2 He gained the title of HRH Prince Albert of Wales on 8 December 1841.2 He gained the title of Earl of Dublin on 17 January 1850.2 He was invested as a Knight, Order of the Garter (K.G.) on 9 November 1858.5 He abdicated as Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in 1863.5 He was invested as a Knight, Order of the Thistle (K.T.) on 24 May 1867.5 He was sponsor for Sir James Albert Edward Hamilton, 3rd Duke of Abercorn at his baptism in 1869.6 He was sponsor for Captain Albert Edward Sydney Louis Paget at his baptism.7 He and Alice Frederica Edmonstone were associated between 1898 and 1910.8 He was sponsor for Lt. He was the first heir born to a reigning monarch since 1762 and was created Prince of Wales. Sandringham estate was purchased for him and he led a very full social life being fond of the turf, cards, golf, shooting and dining. He was a heavy eater and smoker but drank only in moderation. He was a womaniser (13 known mistresses) and was involved in a number of scandals including two court cases. He frequently visited France and encouraged close relations with that country resulting in the Entente Cordiale in 1903. He was uncle of the German Kaiser and the relationship between them was not good and in the First World War the Germans claimed that it had been brought about because of Edward's policies.
