  Prins van Battenberg http://www.thepeerage.com/ Admiral Louis Alexander Mountbatten, 1st Marquess of Milford Haven was the son of Alexander Ludwig Georg Friedrich Emil Prinz von Hessen und bei Rhein and Julie Therese Prinzessin von Battenberg. He was born on 24 May 1854 at Graz, Austria.1 He married Victoria Alberta Elisabeth Mathilde Marie Prinzessin von Hessen und bei Rhein, daughter of Ludwig IV Friedrich Wilhelm Karl Großherzog von Hessen und bei Rhein and Alice Maud Mary Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Princess of the United Kingdom, on 30 April 1884 at Darmstadt, Hessen, Germany.2 He died on 11 September 1921 at age 67 at London, England.1 He gained the title of Prinz von Battenberg.1 He was baptised with the name of Ludwig Alexander von Battenberg. He was naturalized as a British on 31 October 1868. He held the office of First Sea Lord of the Admiralty between 1912 and 1914. He gained the title of 1st Marquess of Milford Haven in 1917.1 He gained the title of Earl of Medina.1 He gained the title of Viscount Alderney.1 He gained the rank of Admiral of the Fleet in the service of the Royal Navy.
