- Louis Francis Albert Victor Nicholas Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma was the son of Admiral Louis Alexander Mountbatten, 1st Marquess of Milford Haven and Victoria Alberta Elisabeth Mathilde Marie Prinzessin von Hessen und bei Rhein. He was born on 25 June 1900 at Windsor Castle, Windsor, Berkshire, England.1 He married Hon. Edwina Cynthia Annette Ashley, daughter of Colonel Wilfred William Ashley, 1st Baron Mount Temple and Amalia Mary Maud Cassel, on 18 July 1922 at St. Margaret's Church, Westminster, London, England.1 He died on 27 August 1979 at age 79 at Donegal Bay, County Sligo, Ireland, killed by a bomb placed in his fishing boat by the IRA.1
He gained the title of Prince Louis of Battenberg.1 He was baptised with the name of Louis Francis Albert Victor Nicholas Battenberg.2 Louis Francis Albert Victor Nicholas Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma also went by the nick-name of Dickie. On 14 July 1917 his name was legally changed to Louis Francis Albert Victor Nicholas Mountbatten.1 He was created 1st Viscount Mountbatten of Burma on 23 August 1946.1 He was created 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma on 28 October 1947.1 He was created 1st Baron Romsey on 28 October 1947.1
