He was born on 12 June 1952 at Amorbach, Baden-Württemburg, Germany.1 He married, firstly, Margarita Katherina Elisabeth Prinzessin zu Hohenlohe-Öhringen, daughter of Kraft Hans Konrad 8th Fürst zu Hohenlohe-Öhringen and Katherina von Siemens, on 8 June 1984 at Amorbach, Baden-Württemburg, in a civil marriage. They were remarried 8 days later in a religious ceremony in Neuenstein.1 He married, secondly, Gabriele Thyssen on 15 June 1991 in a morganatic marriage.
     He gained the title of HSH Hereditary Prince Karl-Emich of Leiningen.1

Friedrich Karl Eduard Erwin VI Fürst zu Leiningen is the son of Emich Eduard Karl V Fürst zu Leiningen and Feodore Viktoria Alberta Prinzessin zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg.1 He was born on 13 February 1898 at Strassburg, Kärnten, Austria.1 He married Mariya Kirillovna Romanov, Grand Duchess of Russia, daughter of Kirill Vladmirovich Romanov, Grand Duke of Russia and Victoria Melita Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Princess of the United Kingdom, on 24 November 1924. He was also reported to have been married on 24 February 1925. He died on 2 August 1946 at age 48 at Saransk, Russia, being held captive in a Russian P.O.W. camp.1 He was also reported to have died on 2 August 1946 at Mordvinien, Russia.
     He gained the title of 6th Fürst zu Leiningen in 1939.1
